Chart Attack have premièred the first single off of ¡FLIST!’s debut album, Fuck You Im Dead, the Sun Records inspired romp through the entropy of budding love.
I wrote and recorded this song in my parents basement while visiting for Christmas in 2009. I had just made a mixtape for my younger brother and couldn’t shake Carl Perkins‘ slick and laid-back performance in “Her Love Rubbed Off.” I just wished the song stayed in the dirty shuffle it starts off in! The lyrics were pulled from many different points in my life, always tying back to the feelings of inadequacy, lust, and mania attributed to budding love.
You can pre-order the album through an IndieGogo featuring exclusive content for contributors including an art-book of ¡FLIST!’s past decade, original artwork, and an urn box set.
It’s ears to the ground as ¡FLIST! trickles out more goodies over the next couple of months. Fuck You Im Dead is slated for a November 11th release on cassette, digi, and as a limited silk-screened print, right here, through Art Not Love.
Written over an eight year period, Fuck You Im Dead is ¡FLIST!’s debut effort. The album pulls from a plethora of influences, from Carl Perkins’ wailing croons, Marc Almond’s torch songs, to contemporary mainstays like Busta Rhymes, and Pharoahe Monch. The result is a series of dense, ad hoc collages; odes to the human condition skirting sanity’s peaks, and some of the most neglected reaches of the soul.
Rhythms shake and shuffle around plodding bass and carnivalesque melodies. A lonely voice rises out through the frenzy, gnashing teeth and grinding gums, delivering every word as if it’s their last.
For those who can’t wait, there is an IndieGogo campaign set up as a fund raiser and pre-order service for the album that includes some special edition content that won’t be available elsewhere. More details on that and the November release in the coming weeks.
